This is a beyond rare North Florida gomphothere tooth that is in exceptional condition. Gomphothere teeth are not terribly uncommon in south Florida or South Carolina, but are beyond rare in North Florida. Stunning and very unique colorful enamel that shows well the classic gomphothere "clover" wear patterns and "finger print" designs in the enamel. Awesome wear pattern to the occlusal (chewing) surface. No enamel missing from damage. Pictures really do this specimen no justice - it is much nicer and more attractive in hand. Stunning specimen from a very rare location for this species. It has been coated with a preservative so it will be safe to handle for many years to come. Rock solid and very heavily mineralized; it weighs 1lb 11.7oz.
