This is a very unusual pathological bird phalanx (toe bone). This specimen has a servere pathology to the proximal end, the likely result of a healed injury while the individual was young. There is a nice big spot of pink algae on the proximal end as well. Very unique and unusual specimen - pathological bird bones are extremely rare to find as they are rarely able to evade predators long enough to heal from injuries.
