This is an extremely unique and absolutely fascinating tapir mandible (lower jaw) and symphysis (chin) from a senile individual. The teeth on this specimen are the most highly worn of any tapir jaws that we have ever encountered. The bone is rock solid and very heavily mineralized. It was found in three pieces and has been glued. The teeth have some cracks that have been consolidated. The root of the lower canine is also still intact in the alveolus. Very unique specimen.
