This is an absolutely beautiful, top quality display specimen. This is approximately four feet of a large adult mastodon tusk which includes the intact tip. This piece was found in a peat layer where it was completely oxygen deprived so it is impeccably well preserved. This is one of the largest, best preserved tusks that we have ever seen from Florida. This specimen is rock solid, not fragile or crumbly in any way. It displays wonderfully. Tusks like this are not uncommon from Alaska or the North Sea. However, they are virtually unheard of from Florida. This is the type of fossil that anyone can appreciate. Large Proboscidean tusks like this make for some of the most impressive displays. This is a top quality, investment fossil that will only accrue value over time. Fossils of this size and quality simply are no longer being found. This was a once-in-a-lifetime find. Largest circumference is 16 inches. Outside length is 46 inches. Inside length is 39 inches.
